Abigail Sivan, Ph.D.

Abigail Sivan, Ph.D. received her doctorate in educational research from New York University in 1971. While teaching at Michigan State University from 1971-1975, she continued her education in clinical psychology. Dr. Sivan lived in Israel from 1975 to 1981 where she directed the Kibbutz Child Development Center, worked in the rehabilitation division of the IDF, taught at several medical schools and conducted research at the Brain Behavior Research Unit at Hadassah/Hebrew University Medical Center. Since returning to the U.S., Dr. Sivan has worked as a staff psychologist for the Child Development Clinic of the Division of Developmental Disabilities at the University of Iowa, a pediatric neuropsychologist for the Section of Child Psychiatry at Rush University and for Evanston Northwestern Healthcare, as an associate in a civil forensic practice, and consultant to the Isaac Ray Forensic Group. She maintains an active clinical practice devoted to pediatric neuropsychology.

Dr. Sivan holds academic appointments as an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Feinberg Medical School of Northwestern University and is staff-affiliated with Evanston Hospital. She regularly teaches medical students on the topics of ethics, human values and societal issues related to the practice of medicine. She is licensed in both Illinois and Iowa. Specialty areas of research and practice include pediatric neuropsychology, neuropsychological test development for children and adults, the acceptability of behavior rating scales among minority parents, and explorations of the sequelae of victimization. Dr. Sivan has served on the Iowa Board of Psychology Examiners, the American Psychological Association’s Ethics Committee, and the APA Ethics Code Task Force. In 1994, Dr. Sivan consulted to the UN Commission on War Crimes in the former Yugoslavia.
